This unregulated course trains learners to be able to act as a Legionella Competent Person who is able to carry out risk assessments, implement control measures, ensure proper monitoring and record-keeping to manage Legionella risks. A Legionella Competent Person is an individual appointed to manage the risk of Legionella bacteria on a site, possessing sufficient authority, competence, and knowledge of water systems and relevant health and safety laws. The role is vital for ensuring compliance with regulations and preventing Legionnaires' disease, which can have severe health consequences. The course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for a building which has a water supply, not just leisure or aquatics based. It is open to all those who are required or have a responsibility to test, check or maintain safe water. It will give learners the knowledge on how Legionella is transmitted, the role of a competent person and legislation they need to adhere to as well as risk management including how to reduce the risk of Legionella. In order to attend the course, learners must: • Be 16 years old at the time of the assessment On successful completion of the course, learners will be issued with a STA Legionella Competent Person certificate. This course is valid for 3 years. In order to revalidate their certificate learners will need to attend a new course* before the 3-year expiry date.
